Description VegMichigan invites you to a weekend of fun and education! Join us for any part of August 13th evening, August 14th, and August 15th morning (Friday evening through Sunday morning) for a wonderful time in Chelsea at the Michigan Friends Center. There will be food (five meals), talks, demonstrations, hikes, canoeing, games, camping, swimming, and more. Alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs are not allowed on the property.

On site camping and meals are included in the cost of the Veg Getaway. If you prefer not to camp out, accommodations are available nearby, at an additional cost.

    • 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Presentation - Joyfully Veganizing Your Community - Jim Corcoran, co-founder of VegMichigan and Rae Sikora will show you simple
                 activities that don’t take any particular skills or vast amounts of money but will translate into huge returns in education. Anyone can go out into his
                 or her community and change people's lives using these techniques. You will leave this workshop with tools you can put to use right away!

    • 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Raw food demonstration - Andrea McNinch of  shows us how to make vegan, raw choco-avo pudding
                and sun-dried tomato pasta alfredo.

    • 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. VegMichigan's Annual Report - Learn about VegMichigan's accomplishments for the year and our expectations for the future.

    • 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Fun, games, and personal time

    • 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Capture the flag and other games

    • 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Dinner

    • 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Presentation - Dorothy Davies, co-founder of SASHA Farm, will talk about our animal friends and how a vegan lifestyle affects them,
                 as well as her life running one of the largest animal sanctuaries. Dorothy will also show a brief documentary on SASHA Farm.

    • 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Fun, games, and vegan s'mores


  • Sunday, August 15, 2010
    • 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. Breakfast

    • 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Cooking demonstration - Meriam Corcoran, co-founder of VegMichigan, will prepare a vegan coconut curry dish that can be made as a stew and served over rice or eaten by itself as a soup a soup.

    • 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Games and Personal Time
      • Alternate Activity: Kids' activity

    • 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. H. Pianko, Closing Remarks

Michigan Friends Center

Michigan Friends Center, built in 1994, is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is centered on building community, fostering peace, social justice, spiritual growth and healing, and protecting the environment.

Michigan Friends Center, surrounded by 92 lakefront acres belonging to Friends Lake Cooperative Community in Chelsea, offers a scenic, tranquil meeting place. It is an ideal change-of-pace setting for conferences, workshops, retreats, trainings, educational programs and special events. The Center is efficiently designed to accommodate a variety of group activities.
