Low-carbohydrate diets may be a moneymaking fad, but
potatoes-along with grains, greens, fruits, beans and other
vegetables-have been proving their worth for health and weight control
for decades.
When I became a vegetarian 18 years ago, I lost 18
pounds without even one day of calorie, carb or protein counting.
I've kept the weight off for almost two decades, and I never have felt
deprived.
If people are tired of calculating protein grams and
going on diets, I invite them just to give up the meat and dairy
products, increase the veggies, fruit, beans, potatoes and grains, and
watch the weight fall off and stay off.
