SUMMARY:BOOK CLUB: THE AMERICAN WAY OF EATING BY TRACIE MCMILLAN
DESCRIPTION:BOOK CLUB: THE AMERICAN WAY OF EATING BY TRACIE MCMILLAN \n“The American Way of Eating: Undercover at Walmart\, Applebee’s\, Farm Fields and the Dinner Table” by Tracie McMillan is an exposé of the American food system and what keeps people from eating well. The book is relevant to those who would like to make more compassionate vegan food choices and who work to change the injustices in food production. \nThe book is well-written\, easy to read\, informative and thought-provoking. It is also timely because this is the year that the twice-a-decade farm bill is being negotiated in Washington DC. Many food\, animal welfare and farming organizations are advocating for changes to the bill — including VegMichigan and Attorneys for Animals. \nWe hope you can join us! After registering\, you will receive a confirmation email with information about getting the book\, and about joining the meeting. \nRegister here – https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcpduGgrjwvGdDVnP8YRNTyBEqdcXD7LTwa#/registration

SUMMARY:FACTORY FARMING PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS IN MICHIGAN WITH LYNN HENNING
DESCRIPTION:FACTORY FARMING PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS IN MICHIGAN WITH LYNN HENNING \n\nFactory farming is a growing problem in Michigan. Issues include the harmful impacts it has on small family farmers\, farm animals\, the climate\, and the natural resources of Michigan. Lynn Henning is the Water Rangers Program Director for Socially Responsible Agricultural Project and will discuss some of the problems and solutions to factory farming. Lynn emerged as a leading voice calling on state and federal authorities to hold livestock factory farms accountable to water and air quality laws. With her husband\, she farms 300 acres in Lenawee County\, Michigan\, within 10 miles of 12 CAFOs. As a result of her work to stop pollution from factory farms and to hold state and federal agencies accountable to enforcing laws\, Lynn won the 2010 Goldman Environmental Prize—the environmental equivalent of the Nobel Prize. \nPlus\, learn more about our latest actions to oppose factory farming in Michigan! \nAll attendees can choose one popular plant-based food item to take home. \nPLEASE REGISTER HERE – https://livonia.libcal.com/event/10571804 \nWednesday\, August 23 at 7 pm \n\nLivonia Civic Center Library Auditorium\n32777 Five Mile Rd\, Livonia\, MI 48154\nSponsored by VegMichigan\, Attorneys for Animals\, and Michiganders for a Just Farming System
